Invictus
I want to say this, Invictus is to my knowledge one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. It really is worth the money to go and watch. The story is new and fresh, the storyline bold and daring. And the memories are great. For any South African this is a must see. Nelson Mandela is portrayed as the Father of the Rainbow Nation. Francois Pienaar really pulled it together and with the help of his team they made it to the top.
Critics will say the game was not entirely real, or some of the facts are not entirely realistic enough. It is ok to say that, but look at the bigger picture, what is it that the director tried to tell us. His story begins with the release of Mandela and the critic that we as South Africans had to live with everyday. Then Madiba brings forgiveness to the table. Even his followers see this forgiveness and realize that it is part of the future of healing. Then Madiba realizes that billions of people will watch the World Cup and that we have to excell as a Nation to show the world we are truly a Rainbow Nation. All this is well portrayed in the entire movie, with shots of South Africa as we remember it. And then Madiba gives Invictus to the Sprinboks before the match with words to live by. He brings the nation together in one moment of greatness. He makes the Afrikaners realize that he is not entirely the bad guy, in fact he really wants reconciliation. He fights for the Sprinbok emblem and the green and gold, even though they are emblems of apartheid. He supports the local team even though he never shouted for them before, but rather against them. And thoughout the story you realize " I am the master of my fate and the captain of my soul" and it makes you proud to be a South African when you hear the National Anthem. We are on the verge of the 2010 Soccer World cup in South Africa. Again South Africa is not given a chance by the critics.... could we use some Madiba Magic and maybe win this too?
Morgan Freeman really portrayed Madiba excellent, and Matt Damon Francois Pienaar. The cast was excellent, even Jonah Lomu was played excellent. I personally will give this movie a 9/10 and look forward to the Oscars.... Invictus will be there. Clint Eastwood, well done! You deserve a 5*

Has anyone seen Invictus on Facebook? There are a number of images from the 1995 World Cup finale which you can tag yourself in if you were there. Even Francois Pienaar has tagged himself! Check it out here: http://bit.ly/invictusrugby
